Carpet work

Carpet floors we have fitted. These photographs show stairs, landings, or both, because that is where carpet fitting is hardest to hide and where it is worth photographing.

The frames

Carpet floors, described one at a time

A selection of carpet fitting, shown frame by frame: treads, turns, landings and doorways.

  1. Grey carpet fitted to a staircase, each tread and riser cut tight to the strings and nosings

    Grey, on a straight staircase

Fitted tread by tread and riser by riser, cut in tight against the strings on both sides.

  2. Striped carpet fitted to a staircase, the stripes running straight up each tread and turning with the stairs at the top

    Stripes up a flight

The stripes run straight up each tread and hold their line through the turn at the top.

  3. Patterned carpet fitted to a straight flight of stairs, the pattern kept square and centred from one tread to the next

    A patterned straight flight

The pattern kept square and centred step after step, which is settled when the carpet is set out rather than as it goes down.

  4. Grey carpet fitted to winder stairs, each tapered tread cut and folded to the turn

    A turn in grey

Winder treads taper, so no two are the same shape and each is cut and folded to its own.

  5. Striped carpet fitted across a landing, running through a doorway and up to the head of the stairs

    Stripes across a landing

Carried on through a doorway and along to the head of the stairs.

  6. Pale carpet fitted across a landing, cut round the balustrade and into the doorways

    A pale landing

Pale carpet shows every edge, so the cuts round the balustrade and into the doorways are all on view.

  7. Grey carpet fitted across a landing and down the stairs, finished at each doorway with a threshold bar

    Grey across a landing

Finished at each doorway against the next floor with a threshold bar.

  8. Patterned carpet seen from a landing, running along the landing and down the flight to the hall below

    Looking down from a landing

The landing and the flight below it, in one patterned run down to the hall.
