One room, start to finish

Every photograph below is the same living room, in the order the work happened. It is the clearest way we can show what fitting LVT properly actually involves.

    The room as we found it

    A living room with a curved bay, a curved radiator and a fireplace to work around. The old floor came up and the subfloor was prepared before anything else happened.

    Setting out, by hand

    The pattern and the line of the border were marked on the floor first. Herringbone is unforgiving: if the setting out is wrong, every plank after it is wrong too.

    The border follows the sweep of the bay, each piece cut individually to the curve and back under the radiator. This is the part of the job that takes the time.

How it can be laid

The same floor, arranged three ways

LVT comes as planks and tiles, so the way it is arranged is as much a decision as the colour. We will talk through what suits the room when we visit, and you can see the samples laid out on the floor they are going on.

Straight lay
Planks running in one direction, usually along the length of the room or towards the main light. The quietest option, and the one that suits most rooms.
Herringbone
Each plank set at an angle to its neighbour, so the pattern runs in zigzags across the floor. It changes the character of a room completely.
Borders
A run of planks around the perimeter, framing the pattern inside it. It can follow a straight wall or, as above, the curve of a bay.
