Floor fitting

Anyone can sell you a floor

What you actually live with is how it was measured, planned, cut and fitted. These are our own jobs, across Ipswich and Suffolk — not a catalogue.

Before anything is laid

Most of the thinking happens on an empty floor

By the time the first plank or the first length of carpet goes down, the decisions have already been made: where the pattern starts, which way it runs, where the joins fall and how the edges will be dealt with. Get that wrong and no amount of care afterwards will fix it.

The living room before fitting: the subfloor prepared and swept, with the curved bay window, curved radiator and fireplace in view
The room cleared and the subfloor prepared. A curved bay, a curved radiator and a fireplace to work around.

The same floor marked out by hand, the lines following the curve of the bay before a single piece was cut.

Where the work shows

Nobody looks at the middle of a room

A floor is judged at its edges — along a skirting, round a doorway, up a staircase, against a shower tray. That is where the time goes, and it is the same discipline whatever the flooring is.

Edges and borders

A border cut to follow the sweep of a bay, each piece shaped individually and carried back under the radiator.

Grey carpet fitted to a staircase, each tread and riser cut tight to the strings and nosings

Stairs

Carpet fitted tread by tread and riser by riser, cut tight to the strings and the nosings.

Geometric patterned vinyl fitted in a bathroom, cut around the shower tray and sanitaryware

Cutting around fittings

Vinyl worked round a shower tray and sanitaryware, with a strong pattern that has to stay square to the room.

Whatever the flooring

We supply it and we fit it

Floors 4 U handles the measuring, preparation and fitting, so the job stays with one company from start to finish.

Homes and larger spaces

A staircase and a function room are the same job at different sizes

We fit flooring in houses and in larger spaces — function rooms, commercial areas and properties being turned around between tenants. The scale changes and the programme changes, but the importance of accurate measuring, setting out and cutting does not.

How it starts

It starts with a free home visit

We come to you with the samples, so you can see the flooring in the room it is going in rather than under shop lighting. While we are there we measure up properly and work out how the room needs to be set out. Then you get a clear price.

The visit, the samples, the measuring and the quote are all free, and there is no obligation afterwards.

In their own words

Could not fault Daniel or his fitters they truly went that extra mile. Have always recommended his company and given his telephone number to all that ask. Would use again when my next project is ready.
